What We Do

The PTA supports initiatives that directly impact all Jamestown students.

Over the past two years, the PTA has:

  • placed a Smartboard in almost every classroom and trained teachers on how to use them;

  • funded the cleanup and "renovation" of the Outdoor Classroom in the courtyard (including buying outdoor furniture, plants, and gardening tools that all the classes use to learn about the outdoors);

  • paid for three Artists-in-Residence, who have helped the students create the mobile in the Library, the sculpture in the Outdoor Classroom, and the installation in the Multipurpose Room;

  • paid for nationally-known authors - including Henry Cole, Pamela Duncan Edwards, Jennifer Holm, Margie Palatini, and Greg Tang - to visit Jamestown and meet with the students;

  • donated hundreds of dollars of books to the school library;

  • provided funds to buy computers and other hardware for the tech team as well as technology support for the whole school;

  • bought bikes for MIPA students;

  • funded all Jamestown publications (Yearbook, Poetry Journal, Directory);

  • paid for the transportation for the 4th grade trips to Jamestown;

  • provided funds to the Art, Music, and Spanish Departments;

  • supplemented the teacher training budget, enabling staff to attend a wide variety of training courses;

  • paid for school community events such as the ice Cream Social, hospitality events for teachers and staff, and the new families coffee;

  • provided each teacher and staff member with a holiday bonus; and

  • paid for student recognition and celebration events.

  • Additionally, each year the teachers come up with a wish list of items they would like for their classrooms, and the PTA tries to fund as much as it can.
